Cami The Kangaroo Has too Much Stuff! by Staci C. Bauer
Art by Rebecca Sinclair
Rec Ages 3-9
There are few activities that children dread more than cleaning their rooms. There is any number of reasons for this aversion. Maybe they don’t know where to start. Could be they just aren’t motivated. They may be distracted by all the cool stuff their room has to offer. Still, it could be possible that they finally have everything exactly where they want it for display purposes and ease of use. My son has used all these reasons as an excuse- umm… explanation as to why he shouldn’t have to do the deed. I suspect that I was not much different back in my day.
In this quick fun story, Set for hardback release later this month, Cami has many of the same reasons. She needs to clean her room before she can go to a birthday party and she doesn’t know where to start. Before long, cleaning the room loses priority as she remembers she was supposed to return a stuffed puppy she borrowed and she can’t find it in the mess. It isn’t that she doesn’t want to do as her parents have asked, but her search has made more of a mess than when she started and all the cool things she has collected keep distracting her. Cami gets a lesson not only in why a clean room is a good idea but also how to go about it. Kids will enjoy her story and pick up a couple of pointers along the way.
Every page of this book is illustrated magnificently. Cami and her over-the-top room with its myriad of kid distractions, including a younger sibling, are captured perfectly. Most parents will see their own child in this book (and probably smile) and kids will definitely relate. The soft and cozy colors in the art and dynamic expressions of the characters will keep kids coming back for more.
This is the second book in the “Cami Kangaroo and Wyatt Too” series. Book one, “Cami Kangaroo Has Too Many Sweets!” was released last month.
